Welcome to a former military guardhouse.
The exact date of construction is not known; the earliest written records date from around 1826. The house was most likely built as an adjunct to a city gate that once stood further down the street (near the embankment and the bistro). At the time it probably housed an official and a military watch.
In 1966 the house was purchased from the city — which only two years earlier had planned to demolish it as surplus — and completely reconstructed into its present form. Drinking water, sewage and electricity were all installed.
The ground floor features Czech-style vaulted ceilings, while the attic holds three cozy bedrooms. The surrounding plot offers many unexpected nooks, a cellar and a courtyard that provides privacy and rural calm just steps from the center of Prague.
The house is currently well maintained, with no major interventions, in working condition, and rented on both short- and mid-term bases. airbnb.cz/h/cavehouseprague1
The house is currently for sale.
